Retire the Mortgage (RTM) Campaign

You are probably aware of TCCC's urgent need to pay off the $250,000 loan on the property, costing $1700 monthly. A "Retire the Mortgage" campaign was initiated on November 4, 2008 with a kick-off tour and open house. Guests were delighted with all the landscape improvements made through the help of city beautification grants and private donations. Equally impressive were additions to the Tarzana History Museum and plans for its development.

The RTM committee is pleased to report that the campaign got off to a good start by raising in excess of $20,000, including two "Lifetime" memberships ($5.000 donation) generously donated by Milt & Vivi Davidson and Charlie & Kathy Delle Donne. We also had several Tarzana '1000 Club' memberships ($1,000). Tax-deductible donations continue to arrive daily.

Donations may be made in person (call the Center first to make sure a volunteer will be there), by check mailed to our PO box 570835, Tarzana 91357, or call 818-705-1286 to make credit card donations. Be sure to indicate the donation is for the "RTM Campaign" loan pay-off. The Center is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization and every donation is greatly appreciated, as each helps to lessen the monthly interest payments.

DIFFERENT METHODS OF DONATING TO THE TARZANA COMMUNITY AND CULTURAL CENTER

Donating stock that has increased in value over the years is a smart way to make a gift to the Tarzana Community & Cultural Center (TCCC), a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization. Typically, you can deduct the stock's full market value at the time of your gift. AND, you don't have to pay any capital-gains taxes on the increase in value. That makes your donation of stock a double winner--your taxable income is not increased, AND you can deduct the FULL market value of your stock.

For example, take those shares of IBM sitting in your portfolio with a low basis (what it cost you) of $40/share, (but you are not really sure) and is now valued at $125/share. For each share donated to the Center, you receive an itemized deduction on your tax return of the FULL $125/share even though you only paid $40/share for it. It's a win for you and a win for the Center.

Here is another BIG advantage. You don't have to rummage through all of those old records looking for what you paid for the stock. In most cases, your purchase price doesn't matter. The value of the shares on the date you make your gift is the important number, and a consultant from TCCC will tell you what that amount is. Not having to worry about what you paid for stock shares you acquired at various times years ago--and not having to compute how stock and reinvested dividends have affected the cost--simplifies the entire process. And you can still take an itemized tax deduction for the full value for which the stock is selling.

To confidentially discuss this method of donation with a member of TCCC, please contact us at 818-705-1286 and we will arrange a meeting.

    USED CAR DONATION

The Center can easily take that used car you no longer need off your hands, and you get to deduct its sales value on your tax return. You won't need to meet anyone at "the gas station" and worry about the individual not returning after a test drive. Nor do you have to accept the reduced amount a dealer is willing to offer--usually less than half of the fair market value of your car. The Center can arrange for the car to be sold, and you will get to take an itemized tax deduction for the full sales price. For further information, please contact Patty McManus at 818-705-1286 to discuss this.

The Tarzana Cultural & Community Center respectfully asks for your serious consideration of these two ways to donate to the Center. We thank you for your support.
